First Rays, Kings Canyon (Limited Edition - Larapinta Light Collection)
The Kings Canyon Rim Walk leads through a variety of beautiful landscapes, climbing steeply from the lower creek to the cliffs above, zig-zagging the way through rugged domes and crevices, with views to the canyon below.
This panoramic image involved ascending the cliffs in darkness, so I could await the sun’s first light from the top of the canyon. Not knowing exactly where the sun was going to shine first, I positioned myself along the edge of the cliff hoping for the first rays of light on the gorge wall opposite.
I was surprised to also see that beautiful warm glow on the domes to my right, and am happy I managed to capture so many aspects of the Kings Canyon environment into this panoramic shot. The red glow on the cliffs, a few of the unexpected domes that make up the top of the rim walk, the spiky desert spinifex and a couple of gorgeous ghost gum trees - one precariously clinging to the rock wall.
Limited to 20 editions as part of the “Larapinta Light” Collection - An Adventure through the West MacDonnell Ranges & Beyond. Appreciating the open desert landscapes of Central Australia, including Uluru Kata Tjuta, the Larapinta Trail and West MacDonnell Ranges. A uniquely Australian landscape full of surprises!
